EXIF Viewer & Remover

See exactly what metadata is hidden inside a photo — camera model, lens, exposure settings, and GPS location — then strip it out before you share the file.

How to view and remove EXIF data from a photo

  1. Upload a photo. Drag and drop a JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or TIFF file into the drop zone, or click to browse your device.
  2. Review the metadata. The tool reads the file locally and displays camera, lens, exposure, date, and GPS details grouped into clear sections.
  3. Check for GPS data. If the photo has an embedded location, view the decimal coordinates and open them on OpenStreetMap.
  4. Remove EXIF and download. Click "Clear EXIF & Download" to export a pixel-identical copy with all metadata stripped, ready to share safely.

Use Cases

Strip GPS location before posting vacation or home photos publicly
Check what metadata a photo reveals before sending it to a stranger online
Remove camera serial numbers and identifying details before publishing press photos
Verify a photo's capture date and camera settings for photography portfolio work
Clean metadata from images before uploading to marketplaces or listings

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Every step — reading EXIF tags and generating the cleaned copy — happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your photo is never sent to a server.

What is EXIF data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata that cameras and phones embed in photo files automatically — things like the camera make and model, lens, exposure settings, capture date, and often precise GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken.

Does removing EXIF data reduce image quality?

No. The remover redraws the original pixels onto a canvas and exports a new file — only the metadata is dropped, not the image itself. JPEGs are re-encoded at 95% quality (visually lossless) and PNGs are exported lossless.

Why should I remove GPS location from photos before sharing?

Many phones and cameras embed your exact GPS coordinates in every photo. Posting an unedited photo publicly can reveal your home address, workplace, or daily routine to anyone who checks the file's metadata.

Which file types are supported?

The viewer reads EXIF from JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and TIFF files. The "Clear EXIF & Download" export works for any format your browser can decode and redraw to canvas, typically JPEG and PNG.

What if my photo has no EXIF data?

That's common for PNGs, screenshots, and images that have already been re-saved or stripped by another app or social platform. The tool shows a clear "No EXIF data found" message instead of an error.
