Movie End Time Calculator

Showtime plus runtime is not when the film ends — a chain multiplex runs 15 to 25 minutes of ads and trailers after the time on your ticket, and nobody prints that. Pick your venue type and the calculator adds it, then gives you the whole timeline: when the studio logo actually appears, the halfway point, the quiet stretch where you can go for a refill, when the credits roll, and whether there is a stinger to sit through. A live progress bar tracks it while the film is running.

Private by design. Times are calculated in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to a server.

How to work out when a movie ends

  1. Enter the time on the ticket. Type the printed showtime in either 19:30 or 7:30 PM form. This is the time the auditorium lights go down, not the time the film starts.
  2. Enter the runtime. The runtime a listing gives is the feature only — it never includes trailers, and it usually does include the end credits.
  3. Pick where you are watching. Home is zero. An independent cinema runs about 10 minutes. A chain multiplex runs about 20. A premium or IMAX screen adds its own tech reel on top, so about 25.
  4. Read the timeline. End time, feature start, halfway point, credits and the point you can leave are all listed. Tick the post-credits box if there is a stinger — that moves "you can leave" to the very end.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the trailers before a movie?
At AMC, Regal, Cineworld and Odeon, typically 15–25 minutes after the printed showtime; 20 is the number to plan around. Independent cinemas usually run about 10. Premium formats add a tech reel, so 25 is realistic. This is why "showtime + runtime" is always around 20 minutes early.
Does the runtime include the end credits?
Yes — a published runtime is the whole feature including credits, which for a modern blockbuster is 8 to 12 minutes of it. That is why the calculator shows the credits start separately: it is the point you can leave without missing anything, unless there is a post-credits scene.
What if my movie ends after midnight?
It is shown as the correct clock time with a "next day" note, rather than as an impossible 25:15. A late screening of a three-hour film is exactly the case this calculator exists for.
When is the best time for a snack break?
The middle of the film — past the setup, before the climax. The tool marks roughly the 35% to 60% window of the feature. It is a rule of thumb about pacing, not something the studio publishes, so treat it as a suggestion rather than a guarantee.
Can I use this to plan a double feature?
Yes — calculate the first film's true end time, then check it against the second showtime. The gap you need is the first film's end plus a walk between auditoriums, and remember the second film also has its own trailer block before it starts.
Does the progress bar keep running if I close the tab?
The bar reads your device clock live while the page is open, so reopening it and re-entering the same showtime picks up exactly where the film is. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
