How to check Chinese ad copy for banned words
- Pick the categories. Turn on the rule sets that apply to your product — superlatives, authority endorsement, medical claims, cosmetics medical terms, superstition claims, real estate, promotional urgency.
- Paste your copy. Drop the Chinese ad copy into the editor. Detection is instant and updates as you type — nothing is sent to a server.
- Read the highlights. Illegal wording is marked red, risky wording amber. Hover any highlight to see its category and the legal article it violates.
- Export the findings. Copy a plain-text report or download a CSV of every hit with its position, category and legal basis — ready for your compliance reviewer.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is my ad copy uploaded anywhere?
- No. The dictionary and the matching engine are bundled into the page and run in your browser. Unreleased campaign copy never leaves your device — unlike server-side Chinese checkers, which POST your text to their backend on every check.
- What laws does this cover?
- The PRC Advertising Law (中华人民共和国广告法) — mainly Articles 8, 9, 16 and 17 — plus the Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation and the Real Estate Advertising Rules. Each hit shows which one applies.
- Does it catch traditional characters?
- Yes. Text is normalised before matching: traditional to simplified, full-width to half-width, and inserted spaces, punctuation or zero-width characters are stripped. So 絕對安全 and 最 好 are both caught.
- Why does it not flag every occurrence of 最?
- A bare 最 is a word root, not a violation — 最后一天 (last day) is perfectly legal copy. Single-character roots are a separate opt-in category rather than an automatic red flag, which is the single biggest source of false positives in other checkers.
- Is a clean result a guarantee of compliance?
- No. Keyword matching cannot judge context, comparative claims, or whether a factual assertion is substantiated. Treat this as a first-pass filter, not legal advice.
- Where does the word list come from?
- It merges several open-source Chinese banned-word lists with the categorised lists used by mainstream Chinese webmaster tools, then re-classifies everything by the actual legal article and strips out non-advertising entries (political and profanity terms) that those lists mix in.
