Countdown Timer — Free, Fullscreen, with Alarm
Set hours, minutes, and seconds — or tap a preset — and get a big, drift-free countdown with a progress ring, alarm beep, and title-bar timer. It runs entirely in your browser and a running timer even survives a page refresh.
Private by design. The timer runs entirely in your browser — timer state is saved only to your own browser's local storage so a running countdown survives a refresh.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the timer keep running in a background tab?
- Yes. The deadline is stored as a wall-clock timestamp, so even when the browser throttles background tabs, the countdown stays accurate to the second.
- What happens if I refresh or accidentally close the tab?
- A running timer is saved to your browser's local storage and resumes from the correct remaining time when you reopen the page. Nothing is sent to any server.
- Why don't I hear the alarm?
- Browsers only allow audio after you interact with a page. Because you pressed Start, the beep is unlocked — but if your tab or system volume is muted, you'll still see the visual flash and the tab-title alert.
- Is there a Pomodoro mode?
- Yes — the 25-minute preset is the classic Pomodoro focus block. Pair it with the 5-minute preset for breaks.
- How long can the timer run?
- Up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds. For counting up instead of down, use the companion Stopwatch tool.
- Can I use it fullscreen for a classroom or meeting?
- Yes. The fullscreen button expands the timer display — handy for projecting exam time, standups, or presentations.
How to set an online countdown timer
- Pick a duration. Tap a quick preset (1–60 minutes, including a 25-minute Pomodoro) or type custom hours, minutes, and seconds.
- Press Start. The big display counts down with a progress ring. The remaining time also shows in the browser tab title.
- Keep working. Switch tabs freely — the countdown is anchored to your clock, so background-tab throttling never makes it drift. Refreshing the page resumes the running timer.
- Get alerted. At zero the timer beeps three times and flashes. Press Restart to run the same duration again.
