Line Counter

Count how many lines are in your text and see which lines repeat most. Totals and a frequency table update live as you type or paste, with filters for numbers, single letters, and common words — nothing leaves your browser.

UTF-8 text; up to 2,000,000 characters.

Most frequent lines: line text, occurrence count, rank, and share of all lines
#LineCount%

No lines to list yet — blank lines are counted but not listed.

Lines split at CRLF, CR, or LF, and text ending in a newline counts a trailing empty line. The table lists each distinct line (whitespace-trimmed, case-sensitive) with its share of all lines, including blanks. Your text is processed in this browser tab, and Open File / Save File never upload your files to any server.

STEP 1

Paste, type, or open a file

Drop log lines, lists, or any text into the input, or use Open File to load a local UTF-8 text file (empty files included) — counting happens in this browser tab.

STEP 2

Scan the frequency table

Distinct lines are listed with how often each occurs and its share of all lines — most frequent first, ties in order of appearance.

STEP 3

Filter, tune, save

Hide pure numbers, single letters, or common words, cap the rows shown, copy the summary, or use Save File to download the current text as line-counter.txt.

Counting semantics

What counts as a line?
Text splits at every CRLF, CR, or LF break — a Windows CRLF is one break, not two. Empty input has zero lines, and text ending in a newline counts one trailing empty line (same rule as our word and character counters).
Are blank lines counted?
Yes. Blank lines (including ones holding only spaces or tabs) count toward the line total and the percentage denominator, but they are never listed in the frequency table.
When do two lines count as the same line?
When they match after trimming leading and trailing whitespace, comparing case and inner spacing exactly — so " done " merges with "done", while "Done" and "done" stay separate rows.
What do the hide filters do?
They remove table rows only: lines that are just a number, lines that are a single letter, and lines matching our frozen list of 40 common English function words (case-insensitive). Line totals and percentages never change when you toggle them.
How do Open File and Save File work?
Both are local browser file operations, never uploads. Open File reads a UTF-8 text file strictly: invalid bytes are rejected, a leading byte-order mark is stripped, CRLF endings are preserved, up to 8 MB per file and 2,000,000 characters; an empty file is valid. Save File downloads the current text as line-counter.txt. A failed read never replaces the text you already have.

Privacy: this line counter processes your text in your browser tab. Open File and Save File are local browser file operations — they never upload your files.
