AAC to MP3 Converter

Convert AAC audio to universally-playable MP3, free and entirely in your browser.

What is AAC?

AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is the audio codec behind iTunes/Apple Music downloads, YouTube audio, and most streaming services — it generally sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate and is the default output of many recorders and DAWs.

Why convert AAC to MP3?

Despite AAC’s efficiency, MP3 remains the more universally accepted format — some older car stereos, budget players, and upload forms still only take MP3. Converting AAC to MP3 sacrifices a little efficiency for guaranteed compatibility with hardware and software that predates or ignores AAC.

How to convert AAC to MP3

  1. Drop your AAC file. Drag and drop a AAC file, or click to browse. First use loads the ffmpeg.wasm engine (~31 MB, cached in your browser after).
  2. Confirm output is MP3. This page pre-selects MP3 as the output format — change it in the format picker if you’d rather export something else.
  3. Set quality and convert. Pick a quality or bitrate preset, then click Convert. Processing runs locally on your device and typically finishes in well under a minute for short files.
  4. Download. Click Download to save your MP3 file. Nothing was ever uploaded to a server.

Your file never leaves your browser — conversion runs locally via ffmpeg.wasm, not on a server.
