Double Feature Planner

Two films in one evening only works if the first one ends in time. Enter the first showtime and runtime, the trailers the cinema runs, how long it takes to reach the next screen, and the second showtime. The planner says whether you make it, and if not, whether you only miss trailers or part of the film.

Why the printed showtime is not when the film starts

Cinemas print the time the trailers begin, not the film. Most chains run 15 to 25 minutes of ads and trailers first, so a 7:00 PM showing of a 148-minute film really ends around 9:48 PM, not 9:28 PM.

The same gap works in your favour for the second film: arriving a few minutes after its printed time usually costs only trailers. The planner keeps those two cases apart — missing trailers is fine, missing the opening of the film is not.

Worked example

First showing 7:00 PM, 20 minutes of trailers, 148-minute film: it ends at 9:48 PM. With 10 minutes to reach the next screen you sit down at 9:58 PM. A 10:00 PM second showing leaves 2 minutes to spare.

If the second showing were at 9:50 PM with 20 minutes of trailers, its film would start at 10:10 PM; sitting down at 9:58 PM you miss 8 minutes of trailers only.
