Watts to Gigawatts Conversion
Enter a power value in watts and get the same power stated in gigawatts. The link between the two units is fixed: 1 W = 1/1000000000 GW.
How to convert watts to gigawatts
The watt is the small unit and the gigawatt is the very large one, so a gigawatt result is normally a tiny decimal. One gigawatt contains 1000000000 watts, which makes a single watt worth 1/1000000000 gigawatt.
Type the wattage into the field and press Convert to see the gigawatt figure. Copy puts that result on your clipboard, and Clear empties the field so you can try another value.
Watts to gigawatts formula
Divide the power measured in watts by 10^9 to obtain the power in gigawatts: P(GW) = P(W) / 1000000000. Written the other way round, 1 W = 10^-9 GW = 1/1000000000 GW and 1 GW = 1000000000 W.
As a worked case, a power of 5 W becomes 5 / 1000000000 = 0.000000005 GW, which is the same quantity as 5 x 10^-9 GW.
