String to Binary Converter

Type or paste text and this converter encodes it into binary byte values. Choose a character encoding and a delimiter, then press Convert to see the result in a card below the button.

The controls

The text field holds the text you want encoded. The character encoding select offers ASCII, UTF-8, UTF-16 little endian and UTF-16 big endian. The delimiter select chooses how the byte values are separated: a space, a comma, or none.

The form computes only when Convert is pressed, and the result then shows up in a card below the button. Copy writes the result and its unit to the clipboard, and Clear resets the form.

ASCII uses one byte per character for codes 0 to 127. UTF-8 uses one to four bytes. The four names in the select are all the converter offers.

String to binary formula

Each character is replaced by its byte value, and those values are written in the same order as the text with the delimiter you chose between them.

The ASCII values come straight from the table below: A is 01000001, a is 01100001 and 0 is 00110000. Text that mixes those characters simply places the matching values next to each other.
