ppm to ppt Conversion
A part per million is one part in a million, and a part per trillion is one part in a trillion, so the same quantity written in ppt is always a million times the number written in ppm. Enter a value and press Convert to see it as parts per trillion.
How the conversion works
Both units describe a very small share of a whole. One ppm stands for one part in 1,000,000, that is 10 to the power of -6, while one ppt stands for one part in 1,000,000,000,000, that is 10 to the power of -12. A trillion is a million times a million, so one ppm is worth 1,000,000 ppt.
Moving from ppm to ppt therefore makes the number larger: a figure of 7 ppm comes out as 7,000,000 ppt. Going the other way, from ppt back to ppm, you divide by 1,000,000 instead.
ppm to ppt formula
x(ppt) = x(ppm) x 1,000,000
Take the number of parts per million and multiply it by 1,000,000 (10 to the sixth power) to get the number of parts per trillion. For example, 7 ppm x 1,000,000 = 7,000,000 ppt.
