ppm to Percent Conversion
Enter an amount in parts per million and get the same share written as a percent. Type the number, press Convert, and the answer appears in a card underneath.
What a ppm figure says
A percent splits a whole into 100 equal parts, so 1% is 1/100. A parts-per-million figure splits the same whole into 1000000 parts, so 1 ppm is 1/1000000.
Because a million is ten thousand times bigger than a hundred, a ppm reading is always a much smaller share than the same numeral written as a percent. One ppm comes out to 0.0001%.
ppm to percent formula
To move from ppm to percent, divide the ppm value by 10000:
x(%) = x(ppm) / 10000
Equivalently, 1 ppm = 0.0001%, so multiplying the ppm number by 0.0001 gives the same percent result as dividing it by 10000.
Worked example
How many percent are in 300 ppm? Take the ppm value and divide it by 10000: 300 / 10000 = 0.03%.
The reverse direction behaves the same way with the factor flipped: a percent figure multiplied by 10000 gives the amount in ppm, which is why 10000 ppm and 1% describe the same share.
