Percentage formula

A percent is a share out of 100, and the question you pick decides how the two numbers are put together. Every example below is a real result from this tool.

For First value % of Second value, First value is the percentage and Second value is the amount. Calculation: First value % of Second value, First value: 20, Second value: 60 returns Result: 12, because 20% × 60 = 12.

For First value is what % of Second value, First value is the part and Second value is the whole. Calculation: First value is what % of Second value, First value: 12, Second value: 60 returns Percentage: 20 %, because (12 / 60) × 100% = 20%. With First value: 1 and Second value: 3 it returns Percentage: 33.3333333333333 %, where (1 / 3) × 100% ≈ 33.3333333333333%.

For First value is Second value % of what, First value is the part and Second value is the percentage. Calculation: First value is Second value % of what, First value: 12, Second value: 20 returns Result: 60, because 12 / 20% = 60.

For Percentage change from First value to Second value, First value is the starting value and Second value is the new value. Calculation: Percentage change from First value to Second value, First value: 40, Second value: 50 returns Percentage change: 25 %, because ((50 - 40) / 40) × 100% = 25%.
