Number Converter
Type a number, set the base it is written in and the base you want, and press Convert. Binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal are covered, and any other base from 2 to 36 works.
What this tool does
This converter takes a number written in one base and shows the same number written in another. Binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal are covered, along with any other base from 2 to 36.
The form is one text field and two selects. You type the value, then set the base it is written in and the base you want the answer in.
Nothing is worked out until you press Convert, and the result appears in a card below the button. Copy writes the result and its unit to the clipboard, and Clear resets the form.
Base conversion formula
A base decides which digits a number is written with. Digits run 0-9 then A-Z, and every base from 2 to 36 can be used here.
The value itself does not change when you switch bases, only the digits it is spelled with. The table shows one value, 255 in decimal, written in other bases: 11111111 in binary, 377 in octal and FF in hexadecimal.
| Base | 255 written in that base |
|---|---|
| Binary (2) | 11111111 |
| Octal (8) | 377 |
| Decimal (10) | 255 |
| Hexadecimal (16) | FF |
