Milliwatts to Watts
Enter a power value in milliwatts, press Convert, and read that same power written in watts. One watt equals 1000 milliwatts, so the watt figure is always the milliwatt number divided by 1000.
How to convert milliwatts to watts
A milliwatt is one thousandth of a watt, which makes the change from mW to W a simple division by 1000. Take the figure in milliwatts, divide it by 1000, and what is left is the power in watts.
This calculator performs that division for you: type the milliwatt value, press Convert, and read the watts shown as the result. Press Copy to put the answer on your clipboard, or Clear to start over with a new number.
Converting watts back to milliwatts
The same relationship works in reverse. Because 1 W is equal to 1000 mW, a power stated in watts becomes milliwatts when you multiply it by 1000.
So 0.005 W reads back as 5 mW, 0.100 W reads back as 100 mW, and 1.000 W reads back as 1000 mW.
Milliwatts to watts formula
P(W) = P(mW) / 1000 — the power in watts equals the power in milliwatts divided by 1000.
For example, converting 5 mW gives P(W) = 5 mW / 1000 = 0.005 W. Bigger values follow the identical rule, with 1000 mW working out to exactly 1 W.
