Millivolts to Volts Conversion

Enter a voltage in millivolts and get the same potential written in volts. One millivolt is one thousandth of a volt, so 1 mV = 0.001 V.

How to convert millivolts to volts

Millivolts and volts describe the same quantity, electric potential, and differ only by a factor of one thousand. A volt holds 1000 millivolts, which makes a reading in millivolts a thousand times larger as a number than the same voltage in volts.

To move from millivolts to volts, divide the millivolt figure by 1000. Type the number in the field, press Convert, and the volts value appears as the result; Copy puts that result on your clipboard and Clear empties the field so you can try another number.

Millivolts to volts formula

V(V) = V(mV) / 1000

The voltage in volts equals the voltage in millivolts divided by 1000, because the conversion factor is 1/1000. In practice that means sliding the decimal point three places to the left.

For example, 3 mV divided by 1000 is 0.003 V, and 100 mV divided by 1000 is 0.1 V. Going the other way uses the reciprocal: multiply volts by 1000 to get millivolts, so 1 V is 1000 mV.
