MeV to eV Conversion
Use this calculator to express an energy amount given in mega-electron-volts as electron-volts. Type the figure in MeV, press Convert, and read the answer in eV.
Converting mega-electron-volts to electron-volts
A mega-electron-volt is a larger energy unit than an electron-volt, so the same physical amount gets a bigger number once you switch units. One mega-electron-volt is equal to 1000000 electron-volts, which means you only have to multiply by one million and nothing else.
For example, an energy of 5 MeV works out as 5 x 1000000, giving 5000000 eV. Tiny inputs behave the same way: 0.001 MeV becomes 1000 eV and 0.01 MeV becomes 10000 eV, so even a thousandth of a MeV still lands on a whole number of electron-volts.
MeV to eV formula
The energy in electron-volts, written as E(eV), equals the energy in mega-electron-volts, E(MeV), multiplied by 1000000: E(eV) = E(MeV) x 1000000.
Applying that formula to 5 MeV gives E(eV) = 5 MeV x 1000000 = 5000000 eV. Every row in the table below is produced this way, so you can sanity-check the calculator result against a value you work out by hand.
