Megawatts to Watts Conversion

Enter a power value in megawatts and press Convert to get the equivalent in watts. One megawatt equals 1000000 watts, so the change of unit is a single multiplication.

How to convert megawatts to watts

Type the power in megawatts (MW) into the input box and press the Convert button. The tool returns the same amount of power expressed in watts (W), ready to copy for use elsewhere or to clear before the next value.

A megawatt is a much larger unit than a watt, so the number in watts always comes out far bigger than the number you entered. A machine rated at 3 MW, for instance, works out at 3000000 W.

Megawatts to watts formula

The power P in watts is equal to 1000000 times the power P in megawatts: P(W) = 1000000 x P(MW). Multiplying the megawatt figure by 1000000 gives the answer in watts.

In the opposite direction, 1 W = 0.000001 MW, so dividing a watt value by 1000000 returns megawatts. As a worked case, 1000000 x 3 MW = 3000000 W.
