Megawatts to Kilowatts Conversion
One megawatt is exactly 1000 kilowatts, so changing megawatts into kilowatts means multiplying the power figure by 1000. Enter a value in megawatts and press Convert to see the same power stated in kilowatts.
How to convert megawatts to kilowatts
The megawatt is the larger of the two power units: 1 MW = 1000 kW, and stated the other way round 1 kW = 0.001 MW. Because the gap between them is a factor of 1000, converting simply moves the decimal point three places to the right.
Take the power in megawatts and multiply it by 1000. A value of 0.1 MW becomes 100 kW, and 10 MW becomes 10000 kW. Type the megawatt figure into the field and press Convert; the kilowatt value appears as the result, Copy places it on the clipboard, and Clear empties the field so you can try another number.
Megawatts to kilowatts formula
P(kW) = 1000 × P(MW) — the power in kilowatts is equal to 1000 times the power in megawatts.
For example, to convert 3 MW: P(kW) = 1000 × 3 MW = 3000 kW.
| Power (megawatts) | Power (kilowatts) |
|---|---|
| 0 MW | 0 kW |
| 0.001 MW | 1 kW |
| 0.01 MW | 10 kW |
| 0.1 MW | 100 kW |
| 1 MW | 1000 kW |
| 10 MW | 10000 kW |
| 100 MW | 100000 kW |
| 1000 MW | 1000000 kW |
