kVA to VA Calculator
Convert apparent power in kilovolt-amps (kVA) to volt-amps (VA). Enter the apparent power in kVA and press Calculate — the result is simply 1000 times the input, computed locally in your browser.
Enter the apparent power in kVA
Type the apparent power rating in kilovolt-amps. Generator and transformer nameplates are usually marked in kVA directly; scientific notation like 2.5e-3 also works.
Press Calculate
The apparent power in volt-amps appears at once — multiply by 1000. At most 4 decimal places are shown, and zero kVA is a valid input.

How kilovolt-amps become volt-amps
- What is the kVA to VA formula?
- The apparent power S in volt-amps (VA) is equal to 1000 times the apparent power S in kilovolt-amps (kVA): S(VA) = 1000 × S(kVA). "Kilo" means one thousand, so the conversion is pure multiplication — no power factor is involved.
- How do you convert 2.5 kVA to VA?
- Multiply by 1000: 2.5 kVA × 1000 = 2500 VA. Likewise 0.75 kVA = 750 VA and 12 kVA = 12,000 VA (which is why a 12 kVA generator is often called a 12,000 VA machine).
- Is power factor needed for kVA to VA?
- No. Both kVA and VA measure apparent power, so the conversion is always ×1000 regardless of load. Power factor only matters when converting apparent power (kVA) to real power (watts): P(W) = S(VA) × PF.
- What is apparent power in volt-amps?
- Apparent power is the product of RMS voltage and RMS current in an AC circuit, without correcting for phase angle. A transformer rated 1 kVA can pass 1000 VA — for example 240 V at about 4.17 A — no matter what its power factor is.
- When do I use VA instead of kVA?
- VA suits small gear — UPS units and transformers are commonly labeled in VA (e.g. 650 VA, 1500 VA) — while generators and distribution transformers are rated in kVA or MVA. Convert between them by multiplying or dividing by 1000.
