Kilohertz to Megahertz Conversion
Kilohertz and megahertz measure the same thing, so a frequency in kHz can be restated in MHz without changing it. One kilohertz equals 0.001 megahertz, which means one megahertz holds 1000 kilohertz.
What happens when you change kHz to MHz
A megahertz is the larger of the two units, so the same frequency is written as a much smaller number once you switch to it. Each single kilohertz is worth one thousandth of a megahertz, and the megahertz reading is always one thousandth of the kilohertz reading.
Nothing about the frequency itself moves. Only the unit changes, the way a distance keeps its length whether you write it in centimetres or metres.
Going the other way, MHz to kHz
The reverse relationship follows from the same factor: 1 megahertz equals 1000 kilohertz. Multiply a megahertz figure by 1000 to state it in kilohertz, so 0.003 MHz is 3 kHz again.
kHz to MHz formula
f (MHz) = f (kHz) / 1000, that is, the frequency in megahertz equals the frequency in kilohertz divided by 1000 (a factor of 1/1000).
For example, to change 3 kilohertz into megahertz: f (MHz) = 3 kHz / 1000 = 0.003 MHz.
| Kilohertz (kHz) | Megahertz (MHz) |
|---|---|
| 0 kHz | 0 MHz |
| 1 kHz | 0.001 MHz |
| 10 kHz | 0.01 MHz |
| 100 kHz | 0.1 MHz |
| 1000 kHz | 1 MHz |
| 10000 kHz | 10 MHz |
| 100000 kHz | 100 MHz |
| 1000000 kHz | 1000 MHz |
