Joules to Kilojoules Conversion
Quickly turn an energy value in joules (J) into kilojoules (kJ). One joule is one thousandth of a kilojoule, so the result is always the input divided by 1000.
Using the joules to kilojoules converter
Type the amount of energy in joules into the field and press Convert to get the equivalent amount in kilojoules. Copy puts the answer on your clipboard, and Clear resets the field for the next calculation.
A kilojoule is a larger unit than a joule, so a value stated in kJ is always a thousand times smaller than the same energy stated in J.
Joules to kilojoules formula
The energy in kilojoules equals the energy in joules divided by 1000: E(kJ) = E(J) / 1000. In unit terms, 1 J = 0.001 kJ.
For example, converting 500 joules: E(kJ) = 500 J / 1000 = 0.5 kJ.

| 10 J | 0.01 kJ |
| 20 J | 0.02 kJ |
| 50 J | 0.05 kJ |
| 100 J | 0.1 kJ |
| 200 J | 0.2 kJ |
| 500 J | 0.5 kJ |
| 1000 J | 1 kJ |
| 2000 J | 2 kJ |
| 5000 J | 5 kJ |
| 10000 J | 10 kJ |
