Hex to String Converter

Paste hexadecimal byte values and read back the text they stand for. Pick a character encoding, then press Convert to see the result in a card below the button.

What this tool does

This tool decodes hexadecimal byte values into text. Type or paste the bytes into the text field: they can be separated by spaces or commas, or run together with no separator between them.

A select box chooses the character encoding — ASCII, UTF-8, UTF-16 little endian, or UTF-16 big endian. Those four are the only choices offered.

How the result is shown

The form computes only when you press Convert; nothing is worked out before that. The decoded text appears in a card below the button.

Copy writes the result to the clipboard and Clear resets the form. Everything runs in the browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.

Hex to text formula

The decoding is a lookup: each byte value stands for a character, and the table on this page lists some of those pairs. For the byte 41 the character is A, for 61 it is a, and for 30 it is 0.

ASCII uses one byte per character for codes 0-127, which is why a single byte value such as 21 gives ! and 3F gives ?. UTF-8 uses one to four bytes, so a character there can take more than one byte value.
