Fraction to Decimal Converter
Enter a whole number, a numerator and a denominator, and the converter divides the numerator by the denominator to give the decimal. The arithmetic is exact, and a decimal that never ends is rounded to 15 significant digits and shown with ≈.
How the converter works
There are three fields: an optional whole number, a numerator and a denominator. Nothing is worked out until you press Convert, and the answer then appears in a card below the button.
Copy writes the result and its unit to your clipboard, and Clear resets the form. Everything happens in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
Fraction to decimal formula
The rule is one division: numerator ÷ denominator = decimal. A fraction with a whole number has that whole number as a field alongside the numerator and the denominator.
The table follows the same rule: 1/2 is 0.5 and 3/4 is 0.75, from 1 ÷ 2 and 3 ÷ 4. A fraction larger than one works the same way, so 3/2 comes out as 1.5.
Rounded decimals
Some fractions have no ending decimal. The table lists 1/3 as ≈ 0.333333333333333: the digits stop at 15 significant digits and the ≈ marks the answer as rounded rather than complete.
Fractions that do end are shown in full, like 1/5 as 0.2 and 1/8 as 0.125, with no ≈ in front of them.
