eV to keV Conversion
Change an energy amount from electron-volts (eV) into kiloelectron-volts (keV) in one step. Because a kiloelectron-volt holds one thousand electron-volts, the keV figure is always a thousand times smaller than the eV figure.
About the electron-volt and the kiloelectron-volt
Both units measure energy. The prefix "kilo" stands for a factor of one thousand, so one kiloelectron-volt contains one thousand electron-volts. Rewriting an amount from eV in keV keeps the energy identical and only shrinks the number by that same factor of one thousand.
Type the energy in electron-volts into the input, press Convert, and the matching amount in kiloelectron-volts appears right away. Copy keeps the answer on hand; Clear empties the box so you can try the next value.
eV to keV conversion formula
One electron-volt equals one thousandth of a kiloelectron-volt: 1 eV = 0.001 keV, which is the ratio 1/1000.
So the energy expressed in kiloelectron-volts is the energy in electron-volts divided by 1000: E(keV) = E(eV) / 1000.
Worked example: converting 500 eV gives E(keV) = 500 / 1000 = 0.5 keV.
