What this tool does

This tool converts calories to kilocalories. It gives you one number field and a select for the kind of unit: Small calories, 1000 cal per kcal, or Large/food calories, 1 Cal per kcal.

The form computes only when Convert is pressed, and the result appears in a card below the button. Copy writes the result and its unit to the clipboard, and Clear resets the form.

Calories to kcal formula

One kilocalorie is 1000 small calories, so a small-calorie figure turns into kilocalories with the factor 0.001: 1 cal = 0.001 kcal. In the Large/food calorie setting the factor is 1, so 1 cal = 1 kcal, because one food calorie (Cal) is 1 kcal.

The table below shows small-calorie values side by side with their kilocalories: 100 cal is 0.1 kcal, and 1000 cal is 1 kcal.
